UNDERSTANDING YOUR VAGINAL HEALTH BASED ON ODOR

08:30 PM

Ever noticed if your V region smells different at times?

It can be concerning for some, but familiarizing yourself with the different scents can help you understand the root cause of where or why this odor is occurring.

Vaginal scent is difficult to control without an overnight treatment or identifying an underlying cause of the issue.

Rotten Smell:

Can be caused by a tampon being left inside the vagina for several days. This can be the most unpleasant smell to experience. Leaving a tampon in longer than the recommended amount of time (8 hours maximum) can be very dangerous to your vaginal health. If this happens, seek a doctors attention as soon as possible and remove the tampon.

Fishy Smell:

A fishy smell could be a sign of bacterial vaginosis. This is not too worrisome – bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of hormones between good and bad bacteria. We recommended visiting your gynecologist if you smell something overwhelmingly strong and fishy.

Bread Smell:

A sourdough-like smell can be the indicator of a yeast infection. Though not to be worrisome, it’s a good idea to check with your gynecologist to confirm the diagnosis. If your discharge looks similar to the texture of cottage cheese, this is also an indicator of a yeast infection. The overgrowth of yeast is likely the cause of the bread-like scent.

Bleach Smell:

A chlorine or bleach-like smell can be the reason for using particular lubricants for intercorse. It is not a cause for concern, but it’s always important to use ph-balanced lubricant to avoid any disruption with your vaginal ecosystem.

Metallic Smell:

A metallic smell is no cause for concern if you are having your period. The smell of the blood and the uterus shedding may cause this metallic odor. This is not a cause for concern, although if the scent is bothersome, you can apply an overnight treatment.

Musky Smell:

A particularly strong odor can be caused by your regular daily activities such as wearing tight fitting clothing, sweating, or discharge that has remained on your underwear for an extended period of time. Using a wash or overnight treatment can help you achieve a quick fresh feeling and quickly help the smell.

Sweet Smell:

Eating citrus fruits such as pineapple can make your vagina smell and taste sweet. If you’ve heard from your girlfriends to eat citrus fruits before getting intimate, it’s not a bad idea!
